Billing and water metering
The charge for each service has two parts: a 'fixed charge' and a 'variable charge'. The fixed charge covers costs that do not change (unless there is a price increase) regardless of the amount of water you use or the wastewater that we treat. This covers our operating costs such as maintaining our pipework.
The variable charge is based on the amount of water you use if you have a water meter or the chargeable value (also known as rateable value) of your property if you have an unmetered supply. The chargeable value was set by the Valuation Office at the Inland Revenue (now Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs) and is not related to the amount of water used, but represents a potential annual rent of the property. If you don't already have a water meter, you might want to follow the link below to see if you would save money by having one installed.
