Pipes, drains and sewers

You, or the owner of the property if you are a tenant, are responsible for the repair and maintenance of the clean water facilities and pipes inside your home, up to the property boundary.

The boundary is shown as a coloured dotted line in our illustration. This boundary will vary and be unique to your situation.

The responsibility for the repair and maintenance of the wastewater facilities and pipework, within the home and up to the point where your pipework meets the public sewer, also lies with the homeowner.

Due to misconnections to our public sewers, every day the equivalent of 1.5 Olympic-size swimming pools of wastewater wrongly enter the region's rivers and streams. We are working alongside the Environment Agency to reduce the number of misconnections across our region.

Main water pipes and public sewers are our responsibility. If you believe there is a problem, get in touch so we can investigate and advise you appropriately.
