Duty of care statement for commercial discharges to sewers

Waste management legislation imposes a duty of care upon all parties handling waste, to ensure proper disposal all the way to the final disposal location.

However, for consented trade effluent or permitted groundwater discharges to our sewers, the disposers' duty of care ceases at the point of discharge to our sewer, provided they have complied with the terms of their discharge consent.

There is therefore no need for commercial customers who hold a consent and are operating within the terms of that consent, to undertake any duty of care activities for their waste beyond the point at which it is discharged to our sewer.
