Factors that may affect your bill

If your metered bill seems unusually high, please consider the points below.

  • Was your old bill based on an estimated reading? If your previous estimate was too low, your current bill may include additional costs from previous bills.
  • Does your current bill cover a longer period of time than your old bill?
  • Have more people moved into your property, or have you had visitors staying?
  • Have you had any water-related problems, such as a dripping tap or washing machine flood? A dripping tap can waste as much as 140 litres a week.
  • Has any building, renovation, or decorating taken place? This could have resulted in using more water that normal.
  • Have you used your washing machine more frequently recently?
  • Have you been using a hosepipe or sprinkler? Using a hosepipe for just one hour is equivalent to three days' average usage (one day average usage = 155 litres).
