How to read your meter
When reading your water meter, you only need to record the black numbers. Depending on the type of meter, it may have four or five black numbers. You should ignore any numbers in red.

Understanding your meter
The black numbers on the meter denote cubic metres used. The red numbers record tenths and hundredths of a cubic metre.
We charge for every cubic metre so please just note the black numbers.
How to locate your meter
Your meter could be fitted inside or outside your home.
- Indoor meters are usually fitted under the kitchen sink, by the inside stop valve.
- Outdoor meters are usually fitted at the outside stop valve. Look for a small metal or plastic cover in your drive, garden, or nearby footpath. You may need a tool such as a screwdriver to open the cover. Under the cover you will find a foam or polystyrene disc. This protects your meter from frost, so please ensure you replace it.
If your meter is positioned outside and you're unsure if you've located the correct meter, please check that the meter serial number, displayed on your bill under the heading 'Meter number', matches the one displayed on the meter.
If your meter is outside and the cover is heavy, please do not attempt to lift it - contact us instead.
Advice if you have received a meter reading card
If we can't access your meter and you're not home when we call, we will leave you a calling card requesting a reading. If you are unable to provide this, we will estimate your bill.
Estimates are based on the average amount of water you use. If you don't have any previous readings we will make an estimate within the range of five to ten cubic metres per month.
When we next read your meter the bill will be adjusted accordingly.
If you have received an estimated bill but would prefer an accurate reading, you can submit your meter reading.
Please note, you will need to allow 15 days from the date of the estimated bill before submitting your reading online.
Requirement to read your meter
We are required to take our own meter readings at each property at least once every two years. This also helps to ensure there are no leaks and that we are not overcharging you.
