  • Collect rainwater in a water butt and use it on your garden.
  • Root crops and tomatoes only need a steady supply of water when their roots or fruits are swelling.
  • Most trees and shrubs only need watering until they're established.
  • Even in the hottest weather, your lawn only needs to be watered once a week.
  • With a watering can, it's easier to make sure you don't over-water the garden.
  • Water late at night or early in the morning to stop water evaporating in the sun.
  • Please be aware that you should have a meter installed before you can use a sprinkler.
  • Over-watering can damage your lawn by encouraging roots to seek the surface.
  • Let the grass grow longer in drier periods. It will stay greener than a close mown lawn.
  • Spiking the lawn will help the water soak down.
  • Ask your garden centre about the types of plants that require less water. They save you time aswell.
