Building over a public sewer

Should the location of a public sewer prevent land development or a property extension, It may be possible to build over the sewer in accordance with the Building Regulations 2000 (as amended) Approved Document part H, however, this will be subject to our approval.

For all sewer classes, except class one domestic, we will need to carry out a survey. This is usually undertaken by Closed Circuit Television (CCTV). There are standard fees for this service based upon the size of sewer affected.

Associated charges

In order for the application to be processed quickly and efficiently, it is important that the correct fees are sent with the relevant signed legal agreement and application form. The current fees for a building over sewer application are:

Minimum £1,300 deposit against actual costs incurred.
