Showcasing London's craftsmanship
Launched in May 2008, the competition was aimed at London based designers and ran for three months, receiving over 115 entries.
An aim was to showcase the design quality and craftsmanship associated with a city, which enjoys a reputation as the design capital of the world.
Design shortlist and winner announced
Ten designs were shortlisted for final judging in September 2008.
The winning design was announced by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, on 1 December.
The winning designer received a one-off award of £5,000, sponsored by Thames Water.
Supporting our principal charity
Profits made from the sale of the winning carafe (after set-up costs, manufacturing, and distribution) will go to leading charity WaterAid.
WaterAid provide vital water resources to some of the world's poorest people, will recieve a minimum donation of £1 from each carafe sold.
Thames Water, The Mayor of London and the Crafts Council will make no profit from the project.
