You don't need to make big lifestyle changes to save water.

Simply fitting water-saving devices in your home can help reduce your water use. There are many devices available and many of them are free to our customers.

Toilet cistern devices

About 24 per cent of an average household's water consumption is used for flushing the toilet. You can reduce this with one of our easy-to-install cistern devices.

A Save-a-flush can save one litre per flush, while a Hippo can save up to 2.5 litres per flush.

However, if you already have a modern dual flushing toilet then you won't need to install a device as these already use less water.

Shower devices

Taking short, four-minute showers instead of baths can reduce the amount of water used for washing.

Saving water in the shower also saves you money by reducing the amount of energy needed to heat it.

Water-saving shower heads

You can replace your existing shower head with an water-saving shower head, which can cut water use by 60 per cent with no loss of performance. Air is mixed into the water and gives the same effect while using less water. These are suitable for use with combi boilers and power showers, but not for electric showers or those with low water pressure.

Shower timers

These will help you monitor how long you spend in the shower. If each person in your family spent one minute less in the shower, you could save over 37,000 litres of water per year (based on a family of four who each take an average of four showers a week), which could fill over 7,000 buckets.

Tap inserts

Bathroom and kitchen taps can waste more water than you might expect, particularly if your water pressure is high. Wash basin tap inserts and miracle taps can easily be installed and will mix air with water, giving the same effect while using less water.

In the garden

Collecting rainwater in a water butt to use on your garden can save a great deal of tap water. They can store run-off from roofs of houses, greenhouses and sheds. They fit neatly against walls and can be placed near vegetable beds to make watering easy.

As one of our customers, you can benefit from a multi-buy discount - buy one water butt and get a second one for half price. Home delivery is free too. You can order a water butt in the following ways:

Hosepipes

Free-running garden hoses and sprinklers can waste a lot of water. Attach a trigger nozzle to the end of your hosepipe to control the amount of water you use.

They fit easily on the end of the hose and allow the water flow to be stopped instantly when moving around the garden or washing the car.

Water gel crystals

These can be used in hanging baskets, window boxes, tubs, pots and containers to reduce the amount of watering required by up to four times.

Simply mix with compost and allow for 25 per cent expansion when filling the container.
