Customers often contact us with queries about the quality of their drinking water.

Nearly 40,000 used our website and approximately 10,000 phoned or wrote to us in 2009. Of these, almost 24,000 people were enquiring about the hardness of their supplies. Much of this information is likely to have been sought by people setting up dishwashers.

Over the same period, around 6,800 people contacted us about problems with the taste, odour or appearance of their tap water. We can sometimes resolve these queries over the phone, but on other occasions may need to make a more detailed investigation.

Data from the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) shows that the number of complaints we received per 1,000 people was 0.84 – well below the industry average of 2.21.
