Planning to ensure that there is enough water in the future

Like humans, animals that live in our region need water to survive.

Reducing the amount of water we use will help to maintain levels of water in our rivers, streams and aquifers, meaning there is more for birds, fish and other wildlife.

Key facts

  • Thames Water owns 18 sites of Special Scientific interest. These areas receive legal protection because of their national wildlife importance.
  • By European Law all waters in Europe, including the UK, must achieve at least 'good status' by 2015.
