There are three frameworks designed to help schools to become more sustainable.
These are Sustainable Schools, Eco-Schools and Sustainable Learning. Wise up to Water focuses on the water elements of these frameworks and is designed to support your school in becoming more sustainable.
Find out if your school is working towards one of these frameworks by asking a member of your school’s management team.
Sustainable Schools: It is the Government’s aim that all schools will meet 'Sustainable Schools' status by 2020. To fulfil this commitment the DCSF introduced The National Sustainable Schools Framework to guide schools through the sustainability process. It introduces eight 'doorways', including energy and water, through which schools may choose to initiate or extend their sustainable school activity.
Eco-schools: Eco-Schools is an international award programme that has been running in the UK for 13 years. The programme is focused around 9 topics of which water is one and promotes a student led approach.
Sustainable Learning: Sustainable Learning is a framework based solely on reducing energy and water consumption in schools and assists them in reaching higher energy rating certificates.
