Why save water?
Collecting, treating and pumping water around the region uses a lot of energy, and heating water for our schools, homes and businesses use up to 7 times more. If we use less water, we use less energy and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.
Key facts
- The water industry emits about 1 per cent of the UK's greenhouse gases.
- The use of hot water for things like personal and household washing in the home accounts for about 5 per cent of the UK's greenhouse gas emissions.
- Because of the transporting and packaging involved, bottled water has a much higher carbon footprint per litre than tap water - more than 300-times the carbon-dioxide emissions per litre in the case of some imported brands.
