Our Future Leaders graduate scheme

Our Future Leaders graduate programme offers comprehensive development across specific areas of our business, backed up by on-the-job role placements.

You could start at one of our water or sewage treatment works, our customer contact centres or our offices in an operational, retail, customer, corporate or regulatory role, and end up transferring to a completely different area by the end!

For our general leadership programmes, we accept all degree disciplines. For our specialised programmes, you’ll need a relevant degree with a minimum grade of 2:2 (or be on track to achieve this grade) to be eligible.

Our graduate programmes run for 2 to 4 years, depending on the area you choose to go into, throughout which we’ll support you to gain the knowledge, skills and experience to succeed and progress as a brilliant leader.

The application process covers several steps, designed to challenge you while helping us see your potential. At each stage, we’ll let you know whether you’ve been successful in progressing to the next one. We always aim to give constructive feedback to our candidates.

What we look for in our graduates

As well as showing you're driven and eager to learn on the job, there are a few things you can do during the application process that may help you stand out from the crowd. Make it clear you understand the programme and development on offer and, most importantly, let us know why you’d love to join our team. Check out what we're up to at the moment on social media, and perhaps look at some of the community projects we’ve been involved in, too – research can go a long way!

Having fun fundraising

If you decide to join our graduate scheme, you’ll become a key part of organising fundraising events for our principal charity partner, WaterAid. Each year our graduates are split into teams and take on a variety of fundraising events as part of the water innovators programme. We have a calendar of events that includes raft races, skydives, quizzes and marathons.
