Riverside flow monitoring zone (FMZ)
We're installing new pipes in the Riverside FMZ due to increased demand in the area.
When and where we'll be working
The work will take place from September 2024 to October 2027.
We're installing 3.6km of pipeline in Bexley, London. This is between:
- Northumberland Heath Reservoir in Colyers Lane
- The junction between Fraser Road (A206) and Pembroke Road
We'll also install a cross connection on the existing pipe to the new main in Fraser Road. This is near the junction of Bexley Road.
The cross connection is in a busy area. There are two other connections at each end of the route, both to connect to the existing water main. This makes it a challenging part of the project.
How this may affect you
Road closures (in 100m sections) will be used. This could cause traffic disruptions.
Footpaths will stay open. Access to driveways will remain open as much as possible.
Noise is likely during working hours. We're sorry for any inconvenience and will try to keep disruptions to a minimum.
Background
The Riverside flow monitoring zone (FMZ) is in South-East London. It serves urban and commercial areas, including Greenwich Peninsula and Charlton Riverside. These are classed as ‘opportunity areas’ by the Greater London Authority.
There are 73,560 new dwellings planned between now and 2050 within this zone. This means the average daily flow demands are predicted to increase from 54.0Ml/d up to 89.8Ml/d in 2050. The peak instantaneous daily demand is predicted to increase from 82.1Ml/d to 167.0Ml/d in 2050. This increase in peak demand is beyond the capacity of the current network.
