Visits are free for all schools who are Thames Water customers. Your students must be at least 7 years old.
Our classrooms are a similar size to a school classroom. We have a capacity of 32 children.
Half day visits usually last for about 2 to 2½ hours. We often start visits at 10am but there is room to be flexible with timings.
Some of your visit will be in our classroom. The students will have the opportunity to carry out some hands-on experiments to show some of the principles of the processes happening on site. The other part of the visit will involve a walking tour of the sewage treatment works.
Yes, the walking tour of the works is all outside and takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes.

You'll need to make sure you are dressed appropriately for the weather, and all visitors must have sensible, closed toe footwear - no high heels please.

If it’s wet we would advise bringing a change of footwear as well as a waterproof coat. You don’t need to bring anything else unless you plan to take notes.

If you decide to bring any food it can only be eaten inside the classroom.

We are happy to try and accommodate all students at our centres.

Those with physical disabilities may find elements of the tour difficult as most sites do have stairways.

If you have specific concerns please discuss this with us before you make a booking as we are often able to find a solution.

No, that isn’t possible. Our centres are on operational sites and you need to be escorted at all times.

Our education officers are experienced practitioners and will lead the indoor sessions, unless a different arrangement is agreed beforehand. You are, of course, welcome to join in. We would expect your teaching staff to deal with any behaviour issues appropriately.
