Streatham Water Treatment Works upgrade

Last reviewed:

We started work in October 2016 to prepare our site for the installation of our new water tanks and associated pipework. The tanks were installed were delivered and installed on Wednesday 4 January 2017.Our works should be completed by March 2017.

In summer 2016 we had our first public exhibition, where residents had the opportunity to come and speak to us about our works. We then had a second exhibition in November 2016 at the Streatham Youth Centre on Conyers Road for residents who were unable to attend the initial meeting.

A working group has now been set up with 10 residents representing the community to work with the project team on the best way to screen tanks on site.

Working hours

Our working hours will be Monday to Friday 7.30am to 6pm.During our works you may hear increased noise in your area.

Why are we doing this?

When treating raw water, a period of 20 minutes is required for the disinfection chemicals to fully treat the raw water.  The flow output for the Streatham Water Treatment Works (WTW) has been reduced to comply with the minimum 20 minute contact time.  For Streatham to meet the 9.6mld peak hourly demand, a larger contact tank volume is required.  We aim to do this by installing two new contact tanks in addition to the existing two already on site.
