We have started work to reline our water pipes along Upper Street and Islington Green. The relining work is urgently needed following the burst in December on Upper Street. Once the work is finished, the pipes will be much stronger and will ensure that we provide a top quality service.
We encountered some network issues and engineering difficulties with our work along Islington Green and Essex Road which has resulted in a delay to our program. Our work started in April and is due to be complete by early autumn.
Our working hours are Monday to Saturday from 7.30am to 10.30pm (between 8:30pm and 10:30pm less noisy activity) and Sundays from 9.30am to 2.30pm. We will do our best to keep noise levels to an absolute minimum.
How long will it take?
We have encountered some engineering difficulties with our work along Islington Green and Essex Road which has resulted in a slight delay to our program. Our work started at the end of April and is now due to be complete by the end of October.
How you’re affected?
We are currently working on Essex Road, Islington Green and Upper Street from the junction of Colebrooke Row and Liverpool Road. Our second stage of work along Upper Street and the A1 Islington High Street is due to start from Wednesday 16 August till the end of October. We will keep you updated as we progress with our work.
To assist with our pipe delivery and welding we currently have a road closure in place on Colebrooke Row until the end of July. This is between the junction of Essex Road and St Peters Street. Vehicle and footpath access will always be maintained for residents but please note that there may be a slight delay whilst we make it safe to travel.
We will soon be working on the A1 Islington High Street. Our work here is due to start from Wednesday 16 August for approximately 3 months. During this time there will be a southbound A1 road closure in place between the junction of Liverpool Road and City Road. There will also be a lane closure on Upper Street between the junction of Islington Green and Liverpool Road.
During the southbound road closure of the A1 Islington High Street bus services will be temporarily diverted on Upper Street, Islington High Street and Essex Road. This will be from Tuesday 15 August till the end of October. Please note that bus services for the route 30 on Upper Street and the route 476 on Essex Road are able to be maintained. Northbound traffic on Upper Street, Islington High Street and Essex Road will also be maintained. There are plans to have a shuttle service operating from Holloway Nags Head via, Holloway Road, Highbury Corner and Upper Street during this time.
We currently have diversions and temporary bus stop closures in place along Essex Road, northbound only. From Tuesday 15 August the traffic on Essex Road and Islington Green will reopen to two-way with traffic management and parking suspensions in place until the end of October. We will do our best to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.
Footpaths and pavements will not be affected, so please continue to visit the high streets, shops and businesses which are all open as usual.
