Hitches Lane rising main replacement

We're replacing a section of the rising main serving Hitches Lane pumping station between the Fleet Road Railway Bridge and M3.

The main has been causing a number of bursts and leaks. Laid in the late 1980’s, the pipe is suffering from internal corrosion.

Pollution levels from recent bursts

Latest test results show that there's no contamination from the rising main to the ponds or watercourses near Elvetham Heath Way and Elvetham Heath Nature Reserve.

We'll continue to monitor these locations to check for any signs of pollution.

When and where we'll be working

Our emergency repair teams are currently on site to control the leaks. We'll be shortly replacing the pipes too.

We'll try to remove as much of the traffic management on Elvetham Heath Way and to reopen the footpath from St Swithins Road to the Nature Park. This will take a couple of weeks to complete due to changes to the large above ground pipes that need to be made.

Rykmansford Road will need to remain closed. Further closure of the road will be discussed at the next public meeting on 10 June 2024.

Phase one

We're currently undertaking surveys and designs for the new pipework. This will help us plan the best method for carrying out our construction phase while minimising disruption to the area.

We aim to have the majority of the surveys completed by the end of May 2024 with designs finalised in June.

Phase two

We expect to start our construction work by the end of June 2024 and completed it by March 2025.

View our map that outlines our works in different stages throughout the next ten months.

We'll provide updates to residents throughout the project on which section of the route we'll be working on.

How this may affect you

As this is an emergency work, we're trying to minimise any inconvenience as much as possible. But there will be the need to shut roads and footpaths at times to enable our works.

We’ll do all we can to reduce disruption while we work. But we understand your business may sometimes be affected. Learn more about our business loss of profits policy.

Next meeting

Our next drop-in session will be on Monday 10 June 2024 at The Key Centre, Elvetham Heath Parish Council, The Key, GU51 1HA.
