Charities and community support

We're supporting valuable causes and investing our time with environmental and community partners. You can view our most recent investment projects in our Community Investment Programme summary.

During lockdown, we doubled our planned contribution from £500,000 to £1 million. This was used to support not-for-profit debt advice partners, including Citizens Advice. We also have an education page that goes through exciting experiments and resources about water.

Partnership with WaterAid

WaterAid is our long-term charity partner. We share their vision to make clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene normal. Since 1981, we've donated over £40 million thanks to our employees and customers.

Our employees previously fundraised for a four-year project in Malawi. Over 1-2 million was raised which helped to improve access to safe water and sanitation.

From 2023-2027 we're hoping to raise £600,000 to support a project in Madagascar. This will be in collaboration with WaterAid Madagascar and JIMWRA. The funding will be used to improve access to water, sanitation, and hygiene. We're hoping to raise the money through employees, suppliers, and contractors.

Fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support

Every two years our employees choose a new charity partner to fundraise for. We previously supported Dementia UK and helped to raise £148,000.

Our current partnership is with Macmillan Cancer Support. We've committed to raising £100,000 to support the charity's work. This will support their vital work in supporting those affected by cancer.

If you'd like to be considered for our next partnership, submit your note of interest. This is for charities with a national catchment-wide reach (London and the Thames Valley).

Thames Water Community Fund

Our community fund has been launched to support water projects in the community.

We want to support community groups and charities whose projects:

  • Provide access to water sports
  • Improve the environment around rivers and other water bodies
  • Support nature with water related projects including pond creation and rainwater harvesting
  • Improve health in community spaces, for example, installing accessible toilets

We cannot offer water supply connections or ongoing costs of water.

Our committee will review applications at the end of July 2025, November 2025 and March 2026. We'll let successful applicants know within two weeks.

Where possible, we want to provide further support through colleague volunteering. Please do bring any opportunities to work with us in this way in your project requests.

Please check that your organisation is within our supply area before applying.

Our fund is hosted on Actionfunder.

Give as you Earn

Employees can support their favourite charities with Give as you Earn. Each month some of the employees salary will be donated to their chosen charity. We support the scheme by paying for the administration. This is the most tax-effective way for our employees to donate to their chosen charities.

Volunteering work

Our business is at the heart of our local community, and most of our employees live locally too. That’s why we support volunteering. Employees get 14 hours of volunteering leave to support local communities. When volunteering, employees undertake a range of activities including:

  • Tree planting
  • Volunteering in schools
  • Mentoring
  • Invasive species clearance

If you're a community group looking for volunteers, please complete our volunteering form.
