King Edward Memorial Park Foreshore

Cityscape view over the river Thames at King Edward Memorial Park

King Edward Memorial Park Riverside is a new public space on the north bank of the Thames. It expands the park and opens a previously limited riverside area. This new space enhances the park's connection to the river. It offers seating, public art, and better access to the Thames Path. Visitors can enjoy wide, south-facing views and find spots to pause and appreciate the riverside.

The space is designed to bring people closer to the water with floodable areas during high tides. When this happens, water gently overflows the river wall along the western edge of the lower walkway. This allows visitors to feel a closer connection with the river.

Improvements for our community and environment

The children's playground was moved and redesigned with input from the local community. The new playground offers a wider range of play options to meet diverse needs.

We also have two grass mounds rising gently in the center, surrounded by low plants and new trees. Biodiversity has improved with an intertidal terrace habitat and a textured river wall. These features provide shelter for wildlife and invertebrates. The mechanical and electrical kiosk has a planted brown roof, adding to the park's ecological value.
