Bexley High Street mains replacement

We're planning to replace ageing water mains along Bexley High Street. This will make the water network more reliable, lower the risk of bursts, and ensure a better water supply for customers and businesses. We'll deliver the project in manageable phases to reduce disruption and keep access open as much as possible.

When and where we'll be working

Work starts on 7 September 2026. We expect the project to last around 5 months. We'll be working in phases along Bexley High Street.

Please note, durations are subject to change.

We’ll be on site:

  • Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm
  • Saturday, to 8am and 4pm
  • Sunday, 9am to 1pm

Phase 1

  • Bexley High Street from the junction of Salisbury Road to Oxford Mews
  • 5-week duration

Phase 2

  • From the junction of Oxford Mews to Station Approach
  • 4-week duration

Phase 3

  • From the junction of Station Approach to Tan Yard Lane
  • 2-week duration

Phase 4

  • From the junction of Tan Yard Lane to outside Village Hotel
  • 3-week duration

Phase 5

  • From outside Village Hotel to the mini roundabout at Bourne Road
  • 7-week duration

How this may affect you

Before the main work begins, we need to remove a traffic island and add a temporary crossing. This is to support the Bexley High Street diversion route and allow buses and larger vehicles more room to turn safely.

A temporary push-button pedestrian crossing will be installed and maintained throughout the works to ensure safe pedestrian access.

Traffic management

Throughout this project, a road closure will be set up on Bexley High Street. A diversion route will be signposted. To minimise disruption, these works will be completed in 5 phases. Footpath access will be maintained.

There will also be parking suspensions and bus stop suspensions and diversions. You can plan your bus journey online.
