Hampton 3605 mains replacement in Clapham and Battersea
We're replacing over 2.7km of pipes in the Clapham and Battersea area. This upgrade will reduce the chance of bursts and provide a more reliable water supply. This long-term solution will future-proof your water network for generations to come.

When and where we'll be working
Our work started on Monday 5 January 2026. We'll be working in phases along the road to complete the scheme.
We'll be on-site Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm and Saturday, 8am to 6pm. Weekend works when required. We’ll work in sections to minimise disruption as much as we can.
Marney Road
18 May 2026 for around 11 weeks
Road closures:
- Phase 1: Clapham Common North Side Junction to 81 Marney Road
- Phase 2: Clapham Common North Side Junction to 81 Marney Road
- Phase 3: 81 to 37 Marney Road
- Phase 4: 81 to 37 Marney Road
- Phase 5: 37 Marney Road to junction of Stormont Road
- Phase 6: 37 Marney Road to junction of Stormont Road
After phase 6, we’ll test the new water pipe before we connect you to it.
Chatham Road and Stonells Road
26 May 2026 for around 10 weeks
Road closures:
- Phase 1a: 114 Chatham Road to junction of Webbs Road
- Phase 1b: Stonells Road
- Phase 2: 114 to 84 Chatham Road
- Phase 3: 84 Chatham Road to junction of Northcote Road
After phase 3, we’ll test the new water pipe before we connect you to it.
Altenburg Gardens
1 June 2026 for around 13 weeks
Lane closures:
- Phase 1: Junction of Clapham Common North Side to 47 Altenburg Gardens
- Phase 2: Junction of Clapham Common North Side to 30 Altenburg Gardens
- Phase 3: 47 to 93 Altenburg Gardens
- Phase 4: 30 to 50 Altenburg Gardens
- Phase 5: 93 Altenburg Gardens to junction of Lavender Hill
- Phase 6: 50 Altenburg Gardens to junction of Lavender Hill
After phase 6, we’ll test the new pipe before we connect you to it.
Wakehurst Road
15 June 2026 for around 16 weeks
Road closures:
- Phase 1: Clapham Common West Side to Canford Road
- Phase 2: Canford Road to Alfriston Road on Wakehurst Road
- Phase 3: Alfriston Road to Leathwaite Road on Wakehurst Road
- Phase 4: 27 Wakehurst Road to the junction of Bolingbroke Road during school holidays
- Phase 5: Junction of Northcote Road to number 27 Wakehurst Road during school holidays
- Phase 6: 73 Wakehurst Road to the junction of Northcote Road during school holidays
- Phase 7: Leathwaite Road to Berber Road on Wakehurst Road
- Phase 8: Berber Road to Webbs Road
- Phase 9: Junction of Webbs Road to no 73 Wakehurst Road during school holidays
After phase 9, we’ll test the new water pipe before we connect you to it.
Chatto Road
13 July for around 7 weeks
Road closures:
- Phase 1: Junction of Webbs Road to Leathwaite Road
- Phase 2: Junction of Leathwaite Road to Wisley Road
After phase 2, we’ll test the new water pipe before we connect you to it.
Please note that these dates and durations may be subject to change. We'll notify you if any updates occur, and you can also keep an eye on this webpage for the latest information.
As part of this scheme, we'll be working on many roads across the area. We'll send letters to update you with further information before these works start.

How this may affect you
- Pedestrian access will be maintained for residents and businesses
- Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles
- Increased noise and vehicle movements, but we’ll do everything we can to reduce this with sound barriers
- Some suspended parking
We may also need to turn off your water supply for a short time. If so, we’ll send you a letter with more details at the time.
