  • Thames Water will be undertaking critical sewer repairs on the A406 North Circular, London in February following a collapse of one of its pipes.
  • Motorists are being advised to avoid the route if possible or allow extra time for their journeys.
  • Thames Water is making record levels of investment to modernise its infrastructure and ensure it can meet the challenges posed by climate change and population growth.

Thames Water will be undertaking urgent repairs to the sewer system infrastructure eastbound of the A406 North Circular Road in February following the discovery of a collapsed sewer pipeline.

The repairs will start on Saturday 14 February and are expected to last up to two weeks.

The works may cause delays on the eastbound A406 North Circular Road towards Brent Cross and will impact the Hanger Lane Gyratory System.

The junction from Hanger Lane heading eastbound onto the North Circular will have lanes 1 and 2 closed, and lane 3 will remain open. Access to the Travelodge slip road will remain available via a diversion route. Bus services along this section have been suspended for the duration of the works.

Engineers will be carrying out the works at the site between the hours of 8am and 8pm, with some night-time activity where required to keep the project on track. The repair is critical to ensure the performance of the sewer system and reduce the risk of major flooding to residents and businesses in the surrounding area.

Neil Levy, Field Operations Specialist at Thames Water, said: “Our purpose is to deliver life’s essential service. We know this is a particularly busy route for motorists, and we recognise that the works are likely to cause significant disruption. We apologise in advance for the disruption we will cause and are working hard to minimise the impact by scheduling the activity to overlap with school half term, but traffic will be considerably heavier than usual.

“We’re encouraging drivers to avoid the route where possible or allow extra time for their journeys during this period.”

Over 2,000 residents and have been notified of the works and Thames Water representatives will be visiting impacted businesses in the area.
