Newham mains replacement
We're investing £40m in two programs to upgrade over 50km of old pipes in your area.
This includes pipelines in Plaistow, Canning Town, Forest Gate, and Stratford and Bow, in Newham.
The new plastic pipes we'll install are much stronger than the old cast-iron ones. Strengthening our network is key to delivering essential services for years to come.
When and where we'll be working
We'll be continuing our pipe replacement along Barking Road from 5 January 2026 to early 2027.
Our working hours will be Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm. We may also work on Saturdays 8am to 1pm if required.
We've made a detailed list of roads we will work on over the next year. More information about the 2027 program will be released towards the end of 2026.

How this may affect you
Our work will last about two years and will affect multiple roads. We would like to apologise for any disruption caused during these essential works. To minimise impact, we're working with Newham Council and the Highways Authority.
- Parking bay suspensions either side of our work area
- Traffic management
- Bus stop closures
- Increase in noise and vehicle movements
- Access maintained for residents, businesses, and emergency vehicles
To keep you informed, we'll communicate through letters and social media updates. Follow us on Next Door.
Benefits of the project
- Reducing leaks will lower the chance of bursts in your area. This means we can save large amounts of water each year and won’t need to take as much from rivers or the ground.
- There'll be fewer traffic disruptions from ongoing repairs and maintenance.
- Network reliability will improve.
- The new pipes have a lifespan of 100 years, providing a reliable service for future generations.
