Repair work completed

5 October, 8:00am

We're pleased to confirm that repair work on the damaged water main has now been completed, with final checks and the restoration of water supply now underway.

Over the weekend, our teams worked continuously to install the replacement pipework and carry out thorough testing to ensure the repair is secure and ready to be returned to service.

Today, specialist teams will begin carefully restoring water flow through the repaired main. As this process takes place, some customers may experience low pressure or temporary interruptions to water supply while the network adjusts.

Throughout the day, our teams will closely monitor the network and complete the final inspections needed to ensure everything is operating normally and customers continue to receive a reliable water supply.

We'd like to thank customers and the local community for their patience and understanding while this complex repair has been carried out. We'd also like to thank our field teams, who have worked throughout the weekend to safely complete the repair and prepare the network to be brought back into service.

If you or someone you know needs a little extra support, our free Priority Services Register can help us to understand your situation so we can take it into account as best we can.

Repair Progressing

2 October, 10:40am

Work is continuing to repair the damaged water main, with teams now moving into the next stage of the work.

The affected section of the main has been uncovered, and our teams are now removing the damaged pipe and preparing the area for its replacement.

A specialised replacement pipe is expected to arrive on site over the weekend, with installation planned to begin shortly afterwards.

Customers continue to receive usual water supply, and the network remains stable while this complex repair is carried out. Temporary measures remain in place to help maintain supplies throughout the work.

Based on the current programme, we expect the repair to be completed and the main returned to normal operation by Friday next week, subject to progress on site.

We’re sorry for the disruption this work is causing, particularly any additional traffic, vehicles and activity around the area. We appreciate the patience and understanding of local residents and customers while our teams work to complete this essential repair safely.

If you or someone you know needs a little extra support, our free Priority Services Register can help us to understand your situation so we can take it into account as best we can.

Repair Progressing

1 October, 9:00am

Over the last day, our teams have made good progress and are moving on to the next stage of repairs.

After carrying out detailed assessments and planning, we've now started excavation work to safely reach the damaged section of the water main. Engineers have confirmed the best repair approach and are carefully uncovering the pipe in preparation for the replacement work.

This remains a complex repair because of the location of the damaged pipe and the infrastructure around it. To help complete the work as quickly as possible, our teams are working extended hours and additional specialist resources have been brought in to support the repair.

We're pleased to confirm that customers continue to receive water supplies and the network remains stable. As a result, the incident response has been scaled back, reflecting the positive progress being made on site.

Throughout the repair, we will continue to closely monitor the network and do everything we can to minimise any disruption to customers. Local hospitals, schools and care homes remain supplied, and we continue to provide regular updates to key stakeholders.

Customers may continue to see engineering teams, specialist vehicles and equipment in the area while this essential work is carried out.

If you or someone you know needs a little extra support, our free Priority Services Register can help us to understand your situation so we can take it into account as best we can.

We'd like to thank customers for their patience and understanding.
