Beckton Nature Reserve
Beckton Creekside Nature Reserve is a peaceful wildlife haven and riverside walk-in-one. Home to barn owls, sparrowhawks, and goldfinches, it’s a bird watcher's paradise.
At the reserve you can:
- Join volunteer activities to help manage habitat for the wildlife
- Visit without a membership, the reserve is open to all members of the public
- Discover lots of wildlife on our flat and accessible footpath
What to see
Beckton is small, but it attracts a diverse range of wildlife. From migrating birds, such as cuckoos and warblers, to resident bats and buzzards.
Grass snakes and other small reptiles stalk through the undergrowth hunting insects. If you visit at the right time of year, you might spot newts returning to the ponds.
Go as far as the Thames River outflow, and you may be lucky enough to see grey and harbour seals bathing on the banks.

Here are a few activities available at Beckton Creekside Nature Reserve:
Watch the birds
The bird feeding station attracts long-tailed tits, goldfinches and other small birds. A viewing station allows you to observe but not disturb. Don't forget to bring your binoculars!
Visit the bug hotel
The mini-beast area lets you discover life from in the undergrowth. Perfect for keeping the kids entertained - and learning something new yourself.
Go for a stroll
The flat and fully accessible footpath takes you along the River Roding. Continue your walk along the riverside path to Barking Creek to see birds and fish.

You'll find pedestrian access from Jenkins Lane, Essex, IG11 0AD.

- Follow any instructions and information on signs – they're there to keep you safe
- Children must be supervised at all times
- Please stick to footpaths

The footpaths at Beckton Creekside Nature Reserve are accessible for wheelchairs and prams.
Bring your wellies – some paths can be wet and/or muddy.
