You’ll soon forget your surroundings in the peace of Hogsmill Nature Reserve. This 8-acre sanctuary is a wildlife refuge in the heart of Kingston-upon-Thames and is:
- A designated Local Nature Reserve (LNR)
- Accessible for all, including mobility aids and prams
- Over 33 hectares of wild, open space

Joining Hogsmill Nature Reserve opens the door to a world of nature. Member events include butterfly and bat walks, moth nights and bird song walks.

What to see
160 species of birds have been recorded at Hogsmill, so you never know what you’ll see when you visit.
From our bird hides, you might glimpse sparrowhawks and kestrels in the sky. Or perhaps you’ll spot pochards, wigeons, teals, sandpipers, and snipes by the lagoon.
The 4-acre lagoon offers a glimpse of the aquatic side of nature. It's home to:
- Waterfowl, waders, songbirds and kingfishers
- Newts, frogs and toads
- Butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies

Get closer to nature
A dream for bird watchers, there are two bird hides at Hogsmill. Spot different species of birds without disturbing them. Perfect for capturing memories on camera!
Lend a helping hand
Each Wednesday, from 9am-11am, Hogsmill Nature Reserve hosts a conservation session. You’ll get the chance to lend nature a helping hand, fuelled by tea and biscuits.
Learn something new
Join in with a guided tour. The team will help you find and observe all different kinds of wildlife, from animals to plants. You just might learn something new!
How to find us
Open every day, from dawn till dusk. Find us by:
- Car - Lower Marsh Lane, Kingston upon Thames (closest postcode KT1 3BW). Off-site parking is free.
- Train - The nearest train station is Berrylands. The reserve is a 5-minute walk from there.
- Bus - K1, K2 or K4. The reserve is around a 20-minute walk from each.
Visiting safely
- Be respectful of other visitors and staff
- Follow any instructions and information on signs – they're there to keep you safe
- Children must be supervised at all times
- Guide and assistance dogs only
