Farmers and landowners
We’re partnering with farmers and landowners to enhance our environment. Every farm and field can make a difference.
Farmers and landowners face many pressures. These include changing weather, tough regulations, and varying availability of agri-environment schemes. We aim to help them reduce diffuse pollution in our catchments. Together, we can take a holistic approach to improve our rivers and groundwater.

Managing pesticides and nitrate
Pesticides and nitrate from farms can harm river and groundwater quality. This impacts our drinking water supply. We are collaborating with farmers and landowners to address this by:
- Raising awareness of water quality issues with key groups
- Working with farmers and advisors to focus on critical areas
- Partnering with trusted local groups to support catchment management
- Collaborating with neighbouring water companies that source from the River Thames and nearby groundwaters

Support for farmers and landowners
Right now, in our target areas, we're offering:
- Water quality updates for farmers and agricultural advisors
- Events to share learning and best practice
- Free one-to-one advice for farmers on topics related to water quality
- The opportunity to apply for funding from Thames Water to improve water quality on farms
For support to do things differently and make changes, email catchment.projects@thameswater.co.uk.

Catchment Fund
We developed our Catchment Fund in 2021, and up to 2025 it’s provided over £2.5 million in funding. This has supported 265 farmers to make changes to their farms.
The Catchment Fund aims to protect water sources. It supports farmers to go beyond legal requirements and aim for the very best practice in our priority catchments. You can apply now through the main Catchment Fund and our Bespoke Water Quality Improvements Projects schemes.
We also offer advice from qualified advisors, events and water quality updates to help you see what’s happening in your area.
