Data quality incidents and changes
Our storm discharge map is a work in progress, and we're making constant improvements to it. We want to be open about any changes we're making, as well as any issues we identify. This gives you total transparency about our storm discharge data.
If we have to take the map offline, we'll explain any data or maintenance issues here.
08/03/2025 - Data outage
On 8 March we experienced reliability issues with the data feeding our live map. As the data was no longer accurate, we took the map offline. Once the issue was fixed, the map was restored by 1.30pm on 10 March.
21/02/2025 - Data outage
On 21 February we experienced reliability issues with the data feeding our live map. As the data was no longer accurate, we took the map offline. Once the issue was fixed, the map was restored by 9am on 24 February.
04/12/2024 - Data outage
On 4 December we had reliability issues with our live data. As the data was no longer accurate we took the map down. Once the issue was fixed the map was restored by 8am on 5 December.
02/12/2024 - Data outage
On 2 December 2024, the data feeding our storm discharge map and API suffered from outage. This means our map wasn't showing up-to-date information. Once the issue was fixed the map was restored by 2.30pm on 2 December.
30/08/2024 - Data outage
Between 30 August and 2 September 2024, we had an issue with some of the data feeding our storm discharge map. This resulted in the Open Data feed freezing. We took the decision to take the map offline whilst the data was recovered. The issue has now been resolved.
11/05/2024 - Planned maintenance
There's planned maintenance on our storm discharge map from Saturday 11 to Sunday 12 May. The map will be unavailable during this time. We're sorry for any inconvenience.
28/04/2024 - Data outage
On Sunday 28 April 2024, the data feeding our storm discharge map and API suffered from outage. This was due to an expired client secret, which is a password our system uses to communicate securely.
This means our map wasn't showing up-to-date information. As it happened outside of normal working hours, it couldn't be fixed straight away.
The map was taken down on Monday 29 April for around two hours. During this time, our team updated the expired secret and restarted our data streams. The map was then republished.
19/01/2024 - Data outage
Between 19 and 21 January 2024, the data feeding our storm discharge map and API suffered from outage.
This was due to two global Microsoft Azure issues impacting our data platform. We decided to take our map down as any data being supplied was no longer up to date.
This issue has been resolved.
11/12/2023 - Data outage
29/06/2023 - Data outage
Between 22:37 on 27 June 2023 and 10:00 on 29 June 2023, the data feeding our storm discharge map and API suffered from outage. This was due to an issue with the connection between our Azure data platform and our internal network. We decided to take our map down as any data being supplied was no longer up to date.
This issue has now been resolved.
22/01/2023 - Data outage
Between 4am UTC on 22 January 2023 and 9:00am UTC on 23 January 2023, the data feeding our storm discharge map and API suffered from outage. This was because our Azure data platform supplier was experiencing internal server errors. We decided to take our map down and remove data from our API, as any data being supplied was no longer up to date.
This issue has now been resolved.
06/01/2023 - Data delay to a number of discharge locations
We identified a data delay on around 15% of the discharge locations. The discharge start or stop time was delayed by up to 24 hours. This means these locations appeared to be discharging for longer than they were. The discharge time automatically corrected within 24 hours. We've resolved this issue and apologise for any inconvenience.
