Lower Green West mains replacement

We’re replacing old water pipes with new, stronger ones at Lower Green West. This is to ensure we continue to provide a reliable service now and in the future.

When and where we’ll be working

Work is due to start on Monday 14 July and is expected to take approximately nine weeks to complete. The work will be completed in two phases.

We’ll be working Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm and Saturdays from 8am to 2pm. For everyone’s safety, the area around the work sites will be closed.

How this may affect you

Our priority is to minimise disruption to the area. This is why we will be delivering the upgrade works simultaneously. It means one less set of works for residents and road users in the future.

To help with the disruption, please allow extra time for your journey. We also advise letting delivery drivers and visitors know about the road closures. You can view where we'll be working on our area map.

Phase one

Work will start on Monday 14 July for approximately four weeks. This phase will impact the following areas:

Southside of Lower Green West - London Road to outside Cricket Green School on Church Road. The road will need to be closed, and the footway reduced to ensure everyone’s safety. During this closure, we will be diverting traffic along two routes:

Route one

Traffic heading North-East on the (A217) London Road will be diverted. It will be diverted via the following:

  • (A239) Cricket Green
  • Madeira Road
  • (A236) Commonside West
  • Upper Green East
  • (A217) Raleigh Gardens
  • (A236) Western Road

Diversion ends at Western Road junction with Church Road and Christchurch Road. Access to Church Road from Lower Green West will be opened.

Route two

Traffic heading North-West on (A239) Cricket Green will be diverted. It will be diverted via the following:

  • (A217) London Road
  • Morden Road
  • (A297) Morden Hall Road
  • (A24) Morden Road, Merantun Way
  • (A236) Christchurch Road, Western Road

Diversion ends at Western Road junction. This is with (A217) Holborn Way, Upper Green West, and Raleigh Gardens.

Church Road between (A236) Western Road and (A217) Lower Green West will be open. This is only for residents and other road users for access and not through traffic.

Phase Two

Work will start on Wednesday 14 August for approximately five weeks. This phase will impact the following areas:

Lower Green West North – Outside Vine Cottages to Sibford Court. It will also impact Sibford Court to London Road. The road will need to be closed to ensure everyone's safety. During this closure we will be diverting traffic along two routes:

Route one

Traffic heading North-East on the (A217) London Road will be diverted. This will be via the following:

  • (A239) Cricket Green
  • Madeira Road
  • (A236) Commonside West
  • Upper Green East
  • (A217) Raleigh Gardens
  • (A236) Western Road

Diversion ends at Western Road junction with Church Road and Christchurch Road. Access to Church Road from Lower Green West will be opened.

Route two

Traffic heading North-West on (A239) Cricket Green will be diverted. This will be via the following:

This includes Colliers Wood Station, Christ Church, Runnymede, Mount Road. It will also serve Haslemere Avenue, Frensham Court, Oxted Close, and Miles Road.

Towards Colliers Wood

This includes: Miles Road, Oxted Close, Phipps Bridge Tram Stop Frensham Court. It will also include Haslemere Avenue Mount Road, Runnymede, and Colliers Wood Station.

Please check your bus provider's website for any alterations to timings or bus stops.

Who we’ll be working with

We're working with SGN to replace old metal gas mains with new plastic pipes. This will help ensure that the community will continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply.

As part of the project, we'll also be working with Merton Council. They'll utilise the closures to complete Highways drainage clearance, repair, and upgrades. Following these works, we will also be completing carriageway resurfacing works. This will be the full extent of Lower Green West one-way system.

By working with the Greater London Authority, we’re saving an estimated 28 days of work. This is in comparison to if these projects had been carried out separately.
