Woodford mains replacement

We are investing £6.2m in a programme of works to upgrade more than 50km of ageing Victorian pipes in your area.

As part of this process, we are looking to replace the pipeline in two sections within Newham. They are among the most vulnerable in the entire Thames Water region..

Work is expected to take around two years and will affect multiple roads.

How this may affect you

We would like to apologise for any disruption caused during these essential works. To minimise impact, we're working with Newham Council and the Highways Authority.

You may notice an increase in noise and vehicle movements, but we’ll do everything we can to keep this to a minimum. Access will be maintained for residents, businesses, and emergency vehicles.

Road closures

Wolseley Road will become a two-way road, and we'll work in 100m phases. This will help maximise traffic flow and reduce residential congestion.

Diversion signs will be displayed.

Parking

We'll be implementing parking bay suspensions. Please look out for our on-street and path signage.

Water supply

We may also need to turn off your water supply for a short time. If so, we’ll send you a letter with more details at the time.

Benefits of the project

The project is part of a £6.2m investment across our region. It will help to:

  • Reduce the risk of bursts in the area - this will help save large volumes of water every year
  • Strengthen our existing network for delivering life's essential services for years to come. The new plastic pipes we will lay are much stronger than the existing cast-iron pipes.
  • Reduce traffic management disruptions caused by continuous repair and maintenance works.
  • Increase network reliability. The new pipes have a 100-year lifespan. It will help us continue to provide a reliable service now and for future generations.
