Highbury Grove mains replacement

We're upgrading the old water mains on Highbury Grove. This will reduce supply interruptions, improve water quality, and tackle leaks. The new pipes we’re installing are stronger and will last longer. They'll help us offer reliable service now and for future generations.

By completing these works now, we aim to prevent future unexpected disruptions.

When and where we'll be working

  • Start date: Monday 20 July 2026
  • Expected completion: November 2026
  • Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, and Saturday, 8am to 1pm.

We'll move north along Highbury Grove, working in phases. Each part will take about 5 weeks.

Phase 1

Baalbec Road to Aberdeen Lane

  • The road will be closed in this area
  • You cannot drive into Baalbec Road from Highbury Grove
  • A signed diversion will be in place
  • People can still walk through
  • Bus stops in this section will not be in use

Phase 2

Aberdeen Lane to Aberdeen Park

  • Full road closure
  • Access will be kept for residents
  • Crossing will be provided via Aberdeen Lane using road plating across the works area
  • No through‑traffic allowed
  • Diversion route stays in place for all other vehicles
  • People can still walk through
  • Bus stops in this section will not be in use

Phase 3

North from Aberdeen Park to Leigh Road and Kelvin Road junction

  • The road will be closed
  • No through‑traffic allowed
  • Diversion route remains in place exactly like in previous phases
  • Pedestrian access maintained throughout
  • Some parking bays may be closed

LTN camera changes

Some traffic cameras will be turned off for a short time. This helps cars follow the diversion and keeps access open for residents. They'll be turned back on when our work is complete.

Note that all other LTN restrictions remain in place.

Cameras affected:

  • Aubert Park (near Highbury Hill)
  • Highbury Hill (near Martineau Road)
  • Highbury Place (near Calabria Road)
  • Highbury Place and Highbury Crescent junction

Bus changes

There will be no through route on Highbury Grove during the works. This means:

  • No buses will stop on Highbury Grove
  • Bus stops will be clearly marked as closed
  • A shuttle bus will start and end at the Highbury Barn Clock Tower. It'll turn around there and then continue towards Finsbury Park.
  • Other buses will follow signed diversion routes
