Temporary water supply for building works

You’ll need to apply for a new water connection to supply your site. We’ll fit a meter to the new pipe as standard, to measure how much water is used.

As the usage will be for building water, you'll have an account set up with a retailer automatically. Thames Water won’t bill you directly. Once your account is set up, you can change your preferred retailer. Learn more about having an account with a retailer.

If you’re converting a temporary building supply into domestic use after construction, you'll need to notify your retailer so they can issue a final bill. The retailer will then inform us of the change.

Apply for a new water connection

If it's a household supply, call us on 0800 980 8800 to close the existing account. We’ll then need to set you up an account with a retailer for your building water supply. You’ll need the site address and your meter serial number.

If it's a non-household supply, please contact your retailer.

We’ll need to fit an approved meter to your supply, to measure how much water is used.

To apply, you'll need the applicant's:

• full name, contact number and email address
• full postal address for correspondence and invoicing

If you’ve already started without an approved water meter in place, we’ll have no way of knowing how much water you’ve used.
