Completing an income and expenditure form
We've put together a step-by-step guide to make filling in your income and expenditure form as simple as possible. Completing the form will help determine any support you may be eligible for.
Before you start, ensure you have the following information ready:
- Sources of income (for example, salary, pension, benefits like Universal Credit)
- Regular bills and any other outgoings (like rent or mortgage, council tax, utility bills, childcare costs, groceries, transport costs)
- Details of any debts you have
- Your Thames Water account number (you can find this at the top of your bill)
Step-by-step guide
Completing the form should take about 20 minutes. You can save your progress and come back whenever you need to.
Personal and household details
Once you've set up your account, you'll need to add your personal information. This includes your contact preferences and address history for the last three years.
Underneath household details, tell us about:
- Who lives with you
- Your employment and housing status (including if you rent from the council or live in temporary accommodation)
- Any vehicles you own
What you owe
List any debts you currently have. These could be:
- Mortgage
- Any loans like personal loan, store loan and payday loan
- Vehicle finance
- Overdraft
- Credit card
You need to add the creditor name, who owns the debt, outstanding balances and monthly payments.
Please do not include utility arrears in this section, as those can be added later in the form, under 'My budget' section.
Your budget
You can choose how you’d like to complete your budget:
- Connect to your bank account (fastest and easiest)
- Add your budget manually (if you prefer)
In this section, you'll need to tell us about:
- Any income you receive - wages, benefits, child support, pension payments. Please include the income of any other adults who live with you. You can do this when the form asks, ‘Does your household receive any other income?'.
- Fixed costs - rent, utilities, council tax, travel, childcare. If your rent or council tax is partly paid through support or benefits, it's important to include both your contribution and the full amount. Please add this information, even if the payments are made directly to your landlord, housing provider, or local authority.
- Flexible costs - food, clothing, phone bills, savings.
Summary
In the last section of the form, you can review your full financial picture - income, spending, debts, and what’s left over. You can make changes before submitting.
Offers of payment
You’ll be asked what you can afford to pay. If you can’t pay anything right now, enter £0. Let us know if you can make small regular payments, too. This will not affect your eligibility for support.
