Sewer pipe responsibility
When something goes wrong, you need to know who's responsible for fixing it. Is it the homeowner or is it the water company?
Homeowner's responsibility
You're responsible for all waste drainage pipes (such as gullies, gutters and drains) within your property boundary, so long as they serve just your property. If your drain joins up with your neighbours, we own the joint part.
What to do
Contact a drain clearing company to clear the blockage.
Water company's responsibility
We own, maintain and repair public sewers under roads and footpaths.
We're also responsible for any sewers which you share with your neighbours, even if they are under your garden or driveway.
