Your metered bill

Your metered bill will be based on how much water you use, which then becomes the wastewater we take away, plus a fixed charge which covers costs like billing and handling enquiries. The average household bill is £1.02* per day/£372.30 per year.

Your online account

By registering for an online account you can view your water use, register for paperless billing and set up a direct debit. For more information visit our online account page. 

Bill comparison period

Once we’ve fitted your smart meter you’ll have some time to adjust to your new metered bill. If your meter was installed on or after 1 April 2018 your comparison period will last for one year. If it was installed before this date, your comparison period will last for two years. At the end of the period we will automatically switch you to a metered bill.

During the comparison period you can view your water use online if you set up an online account. Click here to register. We’ll also send you comparison letters so you can see how a meter could affect your bill, giving you a chance to adjust how much water you use.

If you find your metered bill is likely to be lower than your unmetered bill, you can switch early, before the end of the comparison period. You just need to call us on 0800 316 0989 Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm, or Saturday 8am to 1pm. If you opt to switch within a year of receiving your meter we’ll also credit your account with any money you would have saved if you’d already been on a metered bill. For example, if you switch six months into the comparison period when your metered bill would have been £150 and your current bill £200, we’ll credit your new metered account with £50.

If you find your metered bill is likely to be higher and don’t want to switch early, we have some ways to help you use less water and lower your bill. For example, you could have a free Smarter Home Visit. This will help you to get the best from your new smart meter and stay in control of your water use.
