Notional value charge

If there's no rateable value for your property, we use a notional value to calculate your bill. We work out what this should be by referring to the rateable values of similar properties in the same area.

Your property may not have its own rateable value because it:

  • Didn’t have one on 31 March 1990
  • Was created before 31 March 1990 by dividing one or more properties or merging two or more
  • Has been developed so the property floor space is at least 50% more than before
  • Isn't typical of other similar properties with a rateable value of less than £50

How we calculate your bill

Firstly, we'll multiply the notional value (NV) by the rate for clean water. Then we'll multiply the notional value by the rate for wastewater. Finally, we'll add fixed charges which cover our running costs. All three calculations are then combined to make your bill total.

Example of a bill

Please note that these calculations are illustrative only. Your bill may be different.

Clean water charge - £100 (NV) x £2.20 (clean water rate) = £220

Wastewater charge - £100 (NV) x £1.40 (wastewater rate) = £140

Fixed charges - £78.88 (water fixed charge) + £128.83 (wastewater fixed charge) = £207.71

Bill total - £567.71
