Apply for a grant

We know it can be tough if you’re falling behind with payments, so we have two types of grant you can apply for to help you catch up - the Customer Assistance Fund and the Thames Water Trust Fund.

Customer Assistance Fund

We've partnered with Auriga Services, a not-for-profit debt advice provider, to offer one-off grants that could help you clear your previous debts from last year.

To qualify, you’ll need to:

  • Have an outstanding payment from a previous billing year (before 1st April 2020)
  • Provide information about your income and expenditure
  • Set up a payment plan for future bills

How do I apply?

You'll need to share information about your income and outgoings, so please have this ready before starting your application.

Things are changing

As of 30 September 2020, our current lump-sum grant scheme will close. If we receive your application to the Customer Assistance Fund on or before this date, you’ll be considered for the current scheme.

Our new scheme

From October, we’ll be taking applications for our new payment matching scheme.

Pop back soon for more info.

Thames Water Trust Fund

As the largest charitable funder of debt advice in our region, the Thames Water Trust Fund is here to:

  • Give you access to free, confidential money management advice and one-to-one debt counselling. Find your nearest free independent debt advice agency.
  • Offer support to purchase essential items for your home, including fridges, freezers, cookers, washing machines, beds and household bills. We’ve temporarily paused new applications for essential item grants due to Coronavirus, but we hope to bring this back soon.*

This year, we’re doubling our donations from £500,000 to £1 million for our non-profit debt advice partners, including Citizens Advice, to help as many people as possible, so we can make sure you always have somewhere to turn if you need support.

If you’re an organisation in our region providing money or debt advice, you can learn more about our grants programme.

*We regularly review how to provide accessible and effective support for those who need us most. As soon as we’re able to re-open applications, we’ll update this page, so please check back soon. In the meantime, you may want to consider other grants available in your area. Turn2Us is a national charity supporting families who need financial help, and you can use their online grant-checking tool to check if you’re eligible to apply.
