Helping the growing water demand

We’re investing £20 million to replace the water main called “Millennium Main” in Deptford. The project will help the growing water demand due to increase population in South London.

‘Millennium Main’ is a 1,000mm water main that carries potable water from Nunhead Lower Reservoir to Deptford. The technique used to replace the main is to install a bespoke hybrid high tech liner in over 1.6km of the tunnelled sections.

Work has already started and will be finished in spring of 2025. The new pipes will also help areas like the Greenwich Peninsular and Thamesmead.

How the project will help:

  • Supply sufficient water for over 45,000 homes
  • Prevent leaks
  • Maintain pressures in the network
