Thames Water launches apprenticeship applications to kick off National Apprenticeships Week

• Thames Water is now accepting applications for its college and degree level apprenticeships.

• The company aims to have 100 apprentices start in the financial year 2024/2025. 

• All apprentices will join the business on a permanent contract with guaranteed employment following graduation.  

Thames Water is searching for a new cohort of apprentices who want to learn while working and to build skills throughout their working career. The UK’s largest water company has announced its apprenticeship applications went live on Monday 5 February with the new intake to start in September 2024.  

The application launch is happening at the start of National Apprenticeships Week, which seeks to promote apprenticeships as a viable career pathway and aims to highlight the positive contributions that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy. 

As part of its Skills Strategy, Thames Water is creating a culture of learning and development across the business to effectively address any potential skills gaps and set the business up for success now and in the future.  

A range of college level to degree level apprenticeships in a variety of roles from engineering to quantitative surveying, will be on offer, with the aim of 100 new apprentices starting in the financial year of 2024-2025. In 2023 over 80 people started an apprenticeship with Thames Water, with 51 candidates joining from outside the business. Furthermore, the company was ranked 71st out of 700 in the ratemyapprenticeship table, an annual survey to rank the best apprenticeships, voted by the apprentices themselves. Alicia Gaughan, Level 6 Degree Apprentice in Environmental Management said: “It has been a great experience to work on my apprenticeship with Thames Water where I have learned new skills and developed confidence in a working environment, while being supported and championed by those around me.  

“My apprenticeship has made a huge impact on my development by doing on-the-job training and studying at the same time. It has given me the best of both worlds, enabling me to gain a qualification while earning a living, and in an industry which provides essential services every day.”
